Ncis why does abby work alone

Abby's parents are deceased, though the manner in which they passed is never discussed. Abby reveals that her interest in forensics came from one of the places she lived as a young girl. The Sciutos lived next door to a wrecking yard, and a young Abby became obsessed with the ruined cars that were brought in daily. She found herself wondering how the cars arriving at the yard in such a twisted state became so mangled, and eventually learned about the field of forensics.

This provided a pathway to understanding those heaps of mashed-up metal — and a whole lot more. Abby threw herself into her studies, graduating from LSU with full honors and a bachelor's degree in sociology, criminology, and psychology. That's right: She triple -majored. Abby then earned her master's from Georgia State in criminology and forensic science. While it's never revealed where or how she earned her final degree, Abby has implied that she also has a PhD in chemistry at several points throughout the series.

She was quickly snatched up by the NCIS team after graduating, becoming an integral part of nearly all their investigations. Abby tends to work alone, in spite of her friendly disposition. She has good reason to be wary of partners, though. He works as Abby's assistant, though she grumbles about the intrusion and frequently bristles at his mistakes.

The team's senior field agent, Tony DiNozzo , jokes about Sterling's relatively minor screw-ups, clearly agitating Chip. In time, Chip launches a plot to frame Tony for murder, apparently holding a grudge against him from a time before he was on the NCIS team.

After this plot is revealed, Chip tries to kill Abby to avoid being captured. He lunges at her with a knife, but is overpowered by the NCIS' resident lab rat: Abby disarms Chip and hogties him using some nearby duct tape.

When the other members of the team arrive at the scene, Abby coyly asks her director if she can work alone from this point forward. He has no choice but to accept. Chip Sterling's attack wasn't the last time someone would make an attempt on Abby Sciuto's life.

Her life is only saved by the intervention of an MI6 agent named Clayton Reeves, who dies in the effort. Abby is particularly shaken, as she had come remarkably close to death. After tricking the man who wanted her dead into revealing his identity, Abby opts to retire from the NCIS. She flies back to England with Reeves' body and seems ready to start a new life there, running a charity in his name.

Though Abby spent 15 seasons with the team, she says her goodbye off screen. She leaves her bosses a note to let them know she's gone, and heads to the UK. That's where the series claims Abby is to this day. In the real world, Perrette's departure from the show was a little more complicated than Abby's.

Abby's goodbye was written as a way around having to put actor Mark Harmon and Perrette on set at the same time — that's how deep the schism that led to Perrette's leaving the show went. Her best friend in her lab is a stuffed hippo named Bert that farts whenever it is squeezed, often providing comic relief in otherwise tense situations. Despite her eccentricities, Abby is a top-class and highly dedicated forensic scientist who has described herself as a perfectionist on more than one occasion.

She is almost never fazed by the problems the MCRT throws at her lab, and handles its work almost entirely by herself, often relying on Caf-Pow to help her get through the work although in the NCIS Season 5 episode, Leap of Faith episode and the Season 7 episode, Obsession episode , it's shown that she tends to get very annoyed if her colleagues keep on nagging her for evidence.

In the first few episodes of Season 1 and Season 2, Abby regularly voiced her desire to have an assistant assigned to her lab due to the overwhelming amount of work that was usually given to her but that never came to pass, possibly due to the fact that it was not in the NCIS budget at the time.

However, in Season 3 and shortly after Jenny Shepard was appointed Director of NCIS, she became alarmed by Abby's work habits and level of caffeine consumption, hired an assistant Charles Sterling to help Abby despite Abby herself and Gibbs protesting against the decision. Unfortunately, despite attempting to work together, their working relationship did not last long and came to an abrupt and permanent end when Sterling was exposed for trying to frame Anthony DiNozzo for murder, and arrested, having originally attempted to kill Abby after his true intentions were finally revealed.

But she got the better of him and hog-tied him with duct tape before asking the team if she could work alone now. After that, Jenny took the point and let Abby work alone from then on, a trait that Abby continues to do to this day although in Worst Nightmare, it was revealed that she was still suspicious of new people being assigned to her lab, presumably after the Chip incident. As revealed in "Leap of Faith", Abby hints that she has received several lucrative offers from private firms, but has always elected to remain with NCIS, because of her devotion and strong loyalty to the agency as well as her affection for Gibbs and the rest of the team.

She was briefly attached to a top-secret government project that was code-named "Tarburst," ostensibly to fill the gap left by the project's chief scientist, Dr. Phillip Heller who had gone missing under mysterious circumstances. Tarburst's stated goal was to cure Afghanistan War Syndrome, but was later revealed to be aimed at developing biological weapons that could be used to perform assassinations of any kind without even exposing soldiers or other assets to life-threatening or dangerous situation.

Upon learning the truth, Abby, furious at how she had been manipulated into creating a biological weapon eventually quit the project for good and returned to NCIS where she helped the team solve the case, arresting the true criminal responsible although afterwards, she lured McGee, DiNozzo and Palmer to her lab under the guise of Gibbs so that they could clean her lab which the three men had rather carelessly ruined during their attempts to fill in for her while she was off working on the project.

Toxic episode. She even helped uncover the identity of Mossad spy, Michael Rivkin who was Ziva David 's former boyfriend. During the search, Abby was even sworn to secrecy by Anthony DiNozzo who wanted to talk to Ziva, believing that she knew something before heading off to Ziva's apartment where he met Rivkin, not Ziva. The two later got into a fight after DiNozzo attempted to arrest the Mossad operative which ended with DiNozzo being forced to shoot Rivkin in self-defense.

Abby accepting a call from Vance who seeks her help in regards to the case that he and OSP are currently investigating. Vance did this after learning from Kensi Blye that the crime scene examination would not take place until the next day, a move he regarded as being too long to wait for and set about calling for Abby's help instead.

When Abby accepted the call, she was seen in her lab, performing an experiment regarding darkness and some night-vision goggles. After talking with Vance, she agreed to help, promising to call when she found something from the photos of the crime scene. Sure, everyone on the team knows Gibbs on more than just a boss-employee level, but Abby really doesn't hold back when it comes to gabbing.

She's been known for telling Gibbs about her very private encounters, to which he only replies, "TMI. She's the only one who knows nearly everything about everyone. Since Abby's lab is so secluded, she often finds that her work station becomes a place for her co-workers to come unload their personal stresses. Forensic scientist or part-time therapist?

Abby does it all. She's the only one who gets to tease Gibbs. When Gibbs told Abby not to call him "sir," she didn't skip a beat before calling him "ma'am. No way! She gets to show off unconventional styles. While everyone else sports more conservative outfits to the office, Abby has never been one to just follow the crowd. This trendsetter doesn't leave her personal style at the door. Instead, she proudly rocks her dark clothes, studded necklaces, and chunky boots under her lab coat—and looks fabulous doing it.

She's the only person who can give Gibbs the silent treatment.
