What is the difference between triops and sea monkeys
Sea Monkeys are really Brine Shrimp. They grow to be about 1 inch long and basically they just float around on their backs. That is about it. They swim all around, dig in the sand, and eat sea monkeys. Plus they really do have three eyes. Take a look at this Sea Monkeys Ad taken from an old comic book where Sea Monkeys have historically been sold directly to unsuspecting children, bypassing their parents who obviously might be a little more skeptical of what this ad seems to promise.
The fact that Sea Monkeys are an epic disappointment is the main reason they are famous, as can be attested to by most of their pop culture references.
So where did the idea of taking Brine Shrimp, which were traditionally sold as fish food, and turning them into the cultural phenomenon they became, come from. Whats is the best, triops or sea monkey? I have triops, and triops are very very fun!!!! I love your blog! Comment by Mitrile J March 10, Reply. Triops are freshwater, omnivores eating anything organic , and grow much much much larger.
A combination that sea monkeys can never beat! Sea monkeys are saltwater, herbivores vegetarians , and grow large but not as much as sea monkeys. Preferably I think I found triops easier to grow. Sea monkeys I need a correct amount of water per packet of water purifier. And they both have to use the same type of water: spring or distilled. So my vote obviously goes to triops! You can raise fairy shrimps like sea monkeys with them also! I have raised triops in batches with sand but now small gravel.
But I never got to raise sea monkeys in the same way, just in a small container and that was it. Triops have proven themselves as worthy as sea monkeys. Despite them not living as long as sea monkeys. So my box gave me both animals.
It was confusing, but they have all passed away since. Comment by Brit January 1, Reply. Why havent you finished this post? You are hilarious and i would love to see what you find. I did the sea monkeys for my girls. They got to full maturity which we ended up with both male and female. I saved the female from the floor however I doubt she will live long enough for the eggs to mature. Plus, the tank cracked from the inside. My kids always were excited to see them swimming around in there.
How big do the troips get?? Like couple of inches? I wish you could put them in the same tank instead of separating them. And thanks for mentioning the instant fish! I will have to look for thoes and consider those for our next instant pets depending on cost. I dont want to put a lot of money into them when they have a high potential of not hatching. These generally need salt water to survive. There are similar freshwater shrimp called fairy shrimp, but these are difficult to maintain a colony of over the long term. Both make good fish food. Triops are another type of crustacean that resemble miniature horseshoe crabs. Boxed Triops for children, like sea monkeys, are made in a lab, and their eggs have the interesting ability to exist, dried up, for years, just waiting for someone to add limestone-aged spring water to them so they can hatch.
I do not know their lifespan. I cringe to even think about Googling for that information. Because the Triops are kind of a huge pain in my ass these days. They look like horseshoe crabs. They eat twice a day. They like light but not too much light. They want to be warm. The dog takes medication every day and is on a special diet. Duckie is a pain in her own way: Her water needs to be painstakingly cleaned after I net her little ass into a different container once a week. But the Triops?
Their water routinely needs to be changed every three days or else it stinks and is dark brown.
