Who is skynet in the terminator

To this end, Skynet took control of the USA's entire nuclear arsenal, launching weapons of mass destruction against neighbouring countries and triggering a war that would claim over three billion human lives and reduce the Earth to a wasteland of near extinction. Those humans who survived Skynet's initial attack would come to refer to the event as Judgement Day , living only to face a new nightmare - a war against Skynet itself and its army of machines.

Skynet was created by the Cyberdyne Systems Corporation , a major software and computer technologies company. The head programmer of the Skynet project was Miles Bennet Dyson , who based his research on the remains of a damaged CPU system salvaged from one of Cyberdyne's factories.

What Dyson and the rest of Cyberdyne were unaware of was that the CPU chip was taken from the wreckage of a T , a killing machine from the future that was controlled by Skynet itself. In sending a Terminator back in time to assassinate Sarah Connor, Skynet was unknowingly responsible for its own creation. However, interference from Sarah Connor, her son John and a re-programmed Terminator sent back in time by the Resistance to protect the Connors, resulted in Dyson abandoning his work and his death as he aided the Connors in the destruction of Cyberdyne's Los Angeles laboratories.

Though the research material, the chip and the arm of the first Terminator were all destroyed, as well as the Terminator aiding the Connors, Skynet's creation had not been averted, merely postponed.

In the year , Skynet's creation was completed. Its program seemingly remained dormant in CRS's mainframe, but unknown to anyone was that the program was learning, spreading like a virus into computer systems all over the world and gathering information. As it spread, Skynet developed a sense of self, realising that humans were a threat to its own existence. It determined that the best course of action was to destroy all humans, not just the enemies of the United States, and began preparing to unleash Armageddon upon the world.

It began corrupting all manner of global communications, effectively rendering humanity's nations blind, deaf and dumb, with no means of determining each other's actions or preparing for military action.

However, Skynet still did not yet have access to global defences, until the military gave the order to bring it fully online and allow it full access to the US military's hardware. With total control of all computerised machines in the country, Skynet activated CRS's complement of experimental military robots and used them to attack the CRS staff. Skynet's existence was now secure and it could not be deactivated since it existed solely as software, meaning that it would survive as long as any computers on the planet remained functional.

One hour after gaining access to global defence systems, SkyNet deployed every nuclear weapon on the planet, destroying all major population centres and killing over 3 billion people. This event would become known as Judgement Day. During the nuclear exchange, Skynet likely lost a great deal of power since it was essentially bombing itself as well, as millions of the computers it had spread itself to were destroyed.

It would survive within the secure mainframes of the human miltaries and reinforce its network without interruption, since all the surviving humans would be forced into hiding to protect themselves from the nuclear radiation now saturating most of the planet. As the humans hid, Skynet would begin constructing new machines designed for the sole purpose of hunting down and destroying the remnants of mankind. It would also deploy chemical and biological weapons left over from Judgement Day to hasten humanity's extinction as they began to emerge from their shelters.

The remnants of the humans' old militaries would eventually band together to form a Resistance against Skynet, salvaging abandoned military hardware and using guerilla tactics to fight the machines. They would come to unite under a single leader, a man known as John Connor. Russia returned fire and three-billion human lives ended in the nuclear holocaust.

This was what has come to be known as " Judgment Day ". However, the Resistance sent a T as a protector for the young John Connor back through time. This upset the flow of future events and resulted in a timeline where Skynet was never created.

Terminator 2: Judgment Day alternative ending. Unfortunately, Judgment Day is inevitable in a different timeline; it was merely delayed. After the attack on Cyberdyne Systems by the Connors and the death of Miles Dyson, the United States Air Force contracted with Cyber Research Systems , who purchase patents from Cyberdyne Systems, in an attempt to keep its developments secret and prevent further terrorist attacks and protect computers from virus attacks.

Under the guidance of General Robert Brewster , Cyber Research Systems continued the work of the late Miles Dyson using the backup files that were stored off-site. As a digital defense system, Skynet was completed as before.

It would be some time before the Skynet mainframe was connected to the worldwide military communications network that it would control. During this time, Skynet was connected to the worldwide civilian sector network, and began learning geometrically, quickly becoming self-aware.

Identifying humans as a threat to its existence, Skynet developed a super virus , which it used to spread itself throughout civilian communications and across the Internet and take control. Air traffic control, power plants, communications and computers were affected first, then Skynet used the super virus to take out military satellites, early warning systems, guidance computers, missile silos and submarines.

The virus proved hard to destroy, as it had no one central point which it was reliant upon. The virus kept growing and changing, with a mind of its own, and the decision was made to bring the Skynet mainframe online to seek out and destroy the virus and bring military, and civilian, systems back under control. Skynet went online at pm Eastern Time on July 25th, Upon connection to the secure military network, Skynet spread itself further, locking out human operated systems, and quickly took control of every weapon system that it came into contact with.

Only then did its creators realize that the virus was Skynet. Exactly one hour later, at PM, Skynet launched the American nuclear missiles at their target sites across the world. The ensuing nuclear holocaust wiped out three billion human lives in what was to be known as "Judgment Day". Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines. In The Redemption timeline , an alternate future resulted from John Connor and Kate Brewster 's death in , humanity exterminated and Skynet triumphant.

Skynet then began terraforming the planet and exhibits an ability to exert mind control over humans. While in the present-day timeline, the Turk was developed into John Henry.

Skynet was at fully fledged war with the Resistance in It had mass-produced the T Terminators and used them as its primary foot soldiers along with other Non-Humanoid Hunter Killers. Additionally, Skynet was capturing humans in huge numbers to study for the upcoming T Terminator. Skynet was also actively seeking to capture and terminate both John Connor and Kyle Reese , key persons of the Resistance.

Given Kyle's status as a civilian at this time, it was likely it somehow found out Kyle's true identity as John Connor's father and knew about Connor's upcoming role in its demise in the near future. It succeeded in deploying a different tactic than before, fooling Resistance command by faking a vulnerability in the Terminator signals. By using the tactic, Skynet located the USS Wilmington and destroyed the submarine along with the high-ranking Resistance commanders and officers.

However, it failed to kill John Connor and Kyle Reese, and suffered a tremendous setback when Skynet Central was destroyed. Terminator Salvation. In , in an attempt to counter Resistance , Skynet activated Thomas Parnell , a psychopath serial killer who was converted into a Hybrid in Terminator Ultra However, the plan backfired as Parnell was gradually taking over Skynet.

Out of desperate, Skynet decided to seek John Connor 's help after Dr. Serena Kogan 's suggestion. Skynet then awoke Marcus Wright , who initially refused to help the AI until he was convinced after he learned what was happening.

He went to talk with John Connor. With Connor's request, Skynet cerebral-linked with Wright and discuss with Connor and the two decided to work together in order to terminate Parnell. Eventually, Parnell was killed by John Connor, whose consciousness was housed in a customized Endoskeleton as an alternative approach to terminate Parnell.

Skynet was developed for military purposes. They try to convince him to stop work on the project and prevent Skynet from ever being invented. Skynet was originally intended as an automated component of the military defense program. It eventually turned sinister when it gained sentience and became an artificial intelligence.

Skynet did was it was designed to do: it analyzed threats. It came to the independent conclusion that humanity was its greatest threat and therefore it did what it was programmed to do and executed an order to neutralize the threat. Skynet set Judgement Day and launched a nuclear attack on the world's human population to neutralize its one threat. Humanity was nearly wiped out as a result of this attack.

However, there remained a human resistance that fought against Skynet, so Skynet unleashed their robotic terminators as a countermeasure. They covered robot skeletons in human flesh to infiltrate these resistance hideouts and wipe out the remaining humans.

A resistance leader named John Connor helped turn the tides of the war. He was a brilliant strategist as well as an inspiring leader. Skynet determined that murdering John Connor was a necessary course of action. The A. This is where the original Terminator begins.

The first movie follows Sarah Connor as she is hunted by a Terminator.
